Mobile Pop Up Store
New York City, 2024Extruded Aluminum, Polycarbonate
This display system is designed to provide an immersive, but unobtrusive, retail experience for remote locations while remaining simple to set up and transport through an urban environment.
It was designed for a client with the given parameters: A) A mobile store that must be able to display a large variety of merchandise, B) Be able to fit through conventional doorways and elevators, C) Be able to be moved and deployed by a single person, D) not need specialized maintenance.
With these constraints, a standardized aluminum extrusion system was chosen to build the frames of the store for its durability and lightweight strength, as well as for its extensive library of off the shelf parts that allowed for accessible repairability. Similarly, corrugated polycarbonate panels were chosen for the surfaces for their lightweight durability.
Developed as a series of folding modules, the store is completely adaptable to different environments. The main unit, a point of sale cart, when set up provides an intuitive place to purchase items. However, during transportation, it serves as a dolly to transport the other modules. A pair of corners make up the body of the store and serve as two seperate clothing racks, a set of shelves and a steel mesh wall for hanging miscellaneous items. Two storage bins can be slotted into the bases of the clothing racks to store extra inventory as well as provide stability to the frames. In addition, a folding pair of mirrors and a folding table complete the set.
